Individualized Autism Assessment

An individualized autism assessment is the first step for every child enrolled at The Place for Children with Autism. This assessment is called the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program, or VB-MAPP. Using the VB-MAPP, we determine baseline skills and assess your child’s current milestones relating to language, learning, and social skills.

Personalized Autism Assessment

In addition to directly observing your child, we will talk with you to learn more about your child and interactions within the family. These type of assessments help us identify which skills are needed to help your child get closer to reaching their milestones.

We readminister our autism assessments approximately every 6 months. This allows us to continually monitor progress and to continually address areas that need improvement.

Why Assessment is Important for Children with Autism

In ABA therapy, regular autism assessment is vital to treatment plan success because it allows our therapists to monitor your child’s progress according to their custom treatment plan.

Direct and indirect autism assessments allow our therapists to determine treatment goals to be addressed with your child during therapy. We use a criterion-referenced tracking system so we can measure and compare where your child is currently functioning against where they ideally would be functioning at their age. The goal of ABA therapy for autism is to close that gap or, in other words, to help your child reach the milestones of their typically developing peers.
