CHICAGO, IL — May 4, 2020 – The Place for Children with Autism is now offering teletherapy services for childrenwith autism ages 2-6. This new service is a direct response to the impact of COVID-19 and will allow the organization to continue providing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy in a safe and virtual way.
In addition, given that ABA is an essential therapy for children with autism, The Place is beginning to open their centers in a Limited Service Model which follows the guidelines of social distancing recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the state of Illinois. Teletherapy allows clinicians to better prepare children with autism to enter a Limited Service Model and teach vital prerequisite skills to increase their success when spots open to attend clinic-based services.
Teletherapy is the online delivery of various professional services and therapy which is delivered online and from a distance. The Place for Children with Autism is now enrolling children ages 2-6 for teletherapy in an effort to deliver their ABA therapy services to families in need. The company’s service model centers around an individualized treatment plan for each family and child.
This new teletherapy service will be directly in line with their center-based approach, involving parents, clinicians, and the child prioritizing and working on treatment goals. The Place for Children with Autism’s Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) will lead the parents and children through therapy sessions online while also incorporating activities throughout the session to mirror the structure that occurs in clinics. This teletherapy model will allow families to learn and incorporate strategies of ABA therapy to use with their child both on camera and off.
Current families previously enrolled in ABA therapy services have already begun teletherapy and have reported high satisfaction with the modality of service. Parents are encouraged to visit The Place for Children with Autism’s website to get more information and enroll their children at: https://theplaceforchildrenwithautism.com/teletherapy/
