Giving your child a voice: Augmentative Communication Options

This presentation is geared towards parents who have a child with autism that are minimally verbal and are looking for information on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Dana will educate parents on the different types of low-tech and high-tech AAC options, the AAC team, and myths about AAC and speech/language development. She will also discuss the evaluation process, implementation, and role of the speech therapist.

This presentation will be conducted by Dana Gartlan. Dana Gartlan, MS, CCC-SLP/L is a speech-language pathologist and owner of Spot It All Therapy, providing in-home speech therapy services in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. Dana is experienced in working with children with complex communication needs that require AAC.

This workshop is hosted by The Place for Children with Autism. The Place provides full day (8am-4:30pm) ABA therapy to children ages 2-6 in a school-like setting and has 12 locations around Illinois.
